Hula, Heart Health, and Dementia Risk: Inside the ʻIKE Kupuna Research Project

On Wednesday, September 1, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM HST, the Hawaiʻi Health Professionals Training series takes on Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Keʻalohi Antonio, ʻIke Kupuna Research Coordinator at the UH JABSOM Department of Native Hawaiian Health, leads the session.

The training covers the vascular risk factors behind dementia and how to reduce them, then turns to the ʻIKE Kupuna Research Project, a hula-based intervention built with community members and cultural practitioners rather than adapted after the fact. Antonio shares what worked, what didn’t, and what came out of running a community-engaged ADRD study with Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities.

1.0 credit hour is pending approval for CNE, CME, CHES, and RD. Questions: publichealthhui@hiphi.org. Registration is open now.
