Safety First With your Device
Today, we keep a large amount of sensitive information on our personal devices. For this reason, it is essential that we keep these devices secure. The good news? You don’t need to be a computer expert to keep your important information safe.
Keep the Devices Locked
- Use a strong password to protect your computer, laptop, or tablet.
- Set up a PIN on your mobile device.
- Enable auto-lock or turn off your device when not in use.
- Avoid easily guessed passwords like names or birthdays.
Keep Your Device Up to Date
Criminals exploit outdated software. Keep everything updated:
- Turn on automatic updates for your internet browser (Google, Safari, Edge, etc.)
- Update your security software (Total AV, Norton, Bitdefender, etc.)
- Keep your OS current (Windows 10/11, Android, iOS, macOS)
- Regularly update mobile apps via the App Store or Google Play
Install Antivirus Software
Antivirus software helps protect your device from malicious programs.
- Use built-in or third-party antivirus software for extra features
- Keep it updated for maximum protection
Avoid Using Public or Free Wi-Fi
- Public Wi-Fi is not secure and may expose your activity
- Be cautious about sharing sensitive information on public networks
Special Awareness
- Be mindful of screen privacy when viewing sensitive info
- Take video or phone calls in private settings
Avoid Online Scams
- Don’t click suspicious links or attachments in emails or texts
- Watch out for fake messages from government, charities, or hacked friends
- Look for urgent language asking for money or claiming emergencies
- Use antivirus tools to scan files before downloading
