Medicare fraud costs an estimated $60 billion per year, impacting beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers. It causes not only financial loss but also significant stress and potential health risks. That’s where the Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) Hawaii comes in. SMP is a federally funded, volunteer-based program managed by the Hawaii State Department of Health. Our mission is to “empower and assist Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to prevent, detect, and report health care fraud, errors, and abuse through counseling, outreach, and education.”
To combat Medicare fraud, join SMP Hawaii during Medicare Fraud Prevention Week from June 3-9. Each day, we’ll share valuable tips on how you can avoid being a victim of Medicare scams and help others do the same.
Monday: Medicare Beneficiaries, Medicare Fraud Prevention Week Starts Today!
Start the week by learning how to read your Medicare statements. Reviewing your Medicare Summary Notice (MSN) or Explanation of Benefits (EOB) is crucial in identifying any discrepancies or fraudulent activities. You can receive these statements by mail or review them online at Medicare.gov.
